OVERVIEW
Rod has extensive experience representing companies in all areas of patent law, including patent procurement and portfolio management; patent opinion, licensing, and agreement work; patent litigation; and appeals before the USPTO Board of Appeals. He handles IP issues attendant to mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, collaborations, and market entry strategies.
Rod has prosecuted patent applications in a wide range of technical fields, with an emphasis on:
- Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals: therapeutic antibodies, recombinant fibrinogen, chimeric products and modeling systems, splice variants, RNAi silencing molecules, stem cell and gene therapies, growth factors, biologic and small molecule therapeutics, diagnostic products and kits, drug delivery systems, nutritional compositions, feed supplements, transgenic crops and animals, cell specific gene delivery (e.g., AAV, stinging capsule, agrobacterium), apomictic plants, new cultivars, food manufacturing processes, confectionery products, drought tolerant crops and systems, proton pump inhibitors, anti-venom products, cosmetic compositions, anti-psychotics immunomodulators, and methods of treatment for various diseases and conditions (e.g., diabetes, stroke, platelet disorders, cancer, neuronal cell damage, high blood pressure, diabetic ulcers, gastric acid, rheumatoid arthritis Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, lupus, traumatic brain injury, inflammatory related diseases, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, diabetes type I and II, Alzheimer’s, etc.).
- Medical and Orthopedic Devices: Stents, embolic filters, catheters, medical diagnostic products, vessel harvesting devices, therapeutic focused energy delivery devices, surgical filters and drains, medical monitor devices, medicament dispensers, breath test devices, neuromuscular training devices, back and shoulder braces, and proprioceptive support devices.
- Renewable Energies: Bio-diesel and ethanol production, landfill and waste renewable energy systems, and solar energy innovations.
- General Mechanical: Wheelchair accessible vehicles and lifts; waste removal devices and vehicles; drip emitter systems, jewelry, solar panel support systems, unmanned aerial vehicle systems, irrigation systems, fashion and clothing accessories.
