Overview

Darrell focuses on preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO in the fields of medical devices, electronics, semiconductors, vehicles, and electro-mechanical devices. Darrell has over ten years of experience in law firms and in-house protecting intellectual property through U.S. and foreign patent prosecution (utility and design), patent litigation (federal courts and U.S. Int’l Trade Comm.), patent clearance and freedom to operate analysis, inter partes reexamination, drafting and negotiating IP license agreements and contracts, trademark prosecution, and copyright filings.

Darrell has prosecuted and litigated patents in many technical fields, including:
  • Electrical: semiconductors, circuit design, software, RF communications, thermoelectric cooling, encoding and decoding of audio and image files, consumer electronics, and business methods.
  • Medical/Biotech: medical devices, neurostimulators, seizure detection and prediction, sensing and stimulating leads, medical device battery management and antenna design, orthopedic braces, defibrillators, and pacemakers.
  • Mechanical: vehicles, electro-mechanical devices, agricultural equipment, drip irrigation, automated weapons systems, and sporting goods.
  • Other: biofiltration of pollutants, engineered wood products and laminates, and design patents for clothing, architecture, and more.
Darrell worked in the MOSFET modeling group at Micron Technology before entering law school. Darrell’s legal experience includes working for: a top-three patent firm in D.C., a medical device corporation, and the U.S. International Trade Commission.
